  Paid service year with a non-profit that, in partnership with New York City Department of Education high schools, uses team teaching to increase academic rigor and college readiness. Under the guidance of an experienced lead teacher, my two co-BETAs and I facilitate daily English Language Arts instruction in small groups of 10th grade students, as well as provide tutoring and one-on-one support.   A nonprofit writing and tutoring center in the low-income Boston neighborhood of Roxbury. As both a program intern and an after- school tutor, I mentored local students, aged 6-18, in writing, particularly narrative writing, as well as reading and revision. I also tutored students in a variety of subjects, and helped them complete any assigned homework. As a program intern, I helped produce “I Rate Today a -1000,” a published collection of student essays and stories, and helped teach free creative writing workshops offered at the center during school breaks.
