Since joining Dstl in 2017 as a Cost Analyst I have been involved in a breadth of work across the laboratory, including: • Cost estimation • Cost modelling • Cost forecasting • Consultancy • Project management • Operational Analysis • Data visualisation using Tableau and R • Presenting to high-value stakeholders • Analysis for business cases and investment appraisals In my time with the Lab I have worked extensively with customers across Defence including; Army HQ, Military Police, RAF and MoD Main Building. My consultancy skills have matured to the point that I now lead my own work packages, and I am the ‘Cost Lead’ for projects with the Army. I have shown to be a dependable, flexible and highly motivated member of the team who takes pride in maintaining strong relationships with the customer and producing high quality analysis for them. In addition to my role as an analyst, I have taken on roles as both a STEM Ambassador and Dstl’s ‘Liaison Officer’ for the University of Portsmouth. In these roles I have continued to interact with young people, promoting STEM careers, and demonstrating my communication skills with both expert and non-expert audiences. Show less

Following on from my teacher training qualification, I joined Supply Desk as a newly qualified teacher. During this period I worked as a supply member of staff across a number of schools in Hampshire, often only being informed of the school and subject area to cover on the morning the assignment began. In this role I had to maintain a high level of flexibility and adaptability, often working in areas far removed from my own background in Mathematics. I also built a strong foundation for my consultancy and customer-facing skills, which I have since developed in my current role. Show less

After graduating from my Mathematics course I completed a PGCE qualification. I covered a wide variety of studies based around meeting the Teachers’ Standards. This included areas such as classroom practice, professional conduct, and Maths specific teaching. This has enabled me to become a very strong presenter having worked with a variety of audiences with a number of different purposes and requirements. I refined my interpersonal skills and managed multiple projects successfully whilst completing the qualification at Masters level. During my two placements I worked in high pressure environments with a wide variety of individuals, making difficult and challenging decisions. For this course I was awarded the highest possible standard for my teaching practice. Show less
