I volunteered and was involved in test purchasing of age restricted products in the Bromley Area with the Council’s Trading Standards service. The activity is required to minimise threat and harm to young people. These actions were carried out in order to protect young people who may be experiencing emotional issues that can be made worse by tobacco or alcohol. Working as a team with local police and council officials I tested whether legislation was being adhered to by retail outlets. I approached different retailer asking to buy prohibited items. After each intervention I provided a full report to the officials that I was working with to enable them to take action if appropriate.
