My responsibilities include the complete structural design of single family, townhome, and multifamily structures. The structures are mostly timber superstructures with reinforced concrete foundations, but steel and masonry elements are often used as well. My responsibilities include designing structural systems to resist both gravity and lateral loading. Additionally, my duties include peer reviewing other designer’s projects. For all project types listed above, I design each structural member (beams, joists, studs, headers, foundations, etc.) associated with the gravity load path. I use ASCE 7 or the governing body’s specifications to determine loading and apply them to structural components. In addition to member design, my responsibilities also include the design of all the associated structural connections.I also design the main lateral force resisting system for all project types. Using ASCE 7 and the geotechnical report I derive the seismic base shear and the desired type of force resisting system. The loading is then distributed to each floor using ASCE 7’s equivalent lateral force procedure. I utilize the Directional Procedure outlined in ASCE 7 to derive wind loading. Once wind loading is established for the entire load path, I design all diaphragms, shear walls, moment frames, and any other members required to resist the lateral forces.Aside from the initial structural design, I also work with the contractors to provide solutions to structural issues that arise during construction. These issues range from the repair of damaged foundation walls to complete structural redesigns for constructability or to accommodate different materials.

    • Design Engineer
      • Jun 2018 - Jun 2020

      • Performed EOR work such as gravity load rundowns, lateral load analysis, and diaphragm design. Process included working with other trades in order to coordinate preliminary design requirements • Designed precast concrete components for in-plane and out-of-plane loads, as well as overturning, using knowledge of load paths and building codes, keeping all aspects of business in mind. • Responsible for presenting client with design summaries of precast components and connections in an organized calculation package for both permit and construction • Performed structural analysis and design of precast components and connections in coordination with EnCon’s Precast Plant capabilities with consideration for safe, efficient and economical production, stripping and transportation • Designed shoring and erection stability plans as well as made regular site visits to oversee adherence to these plans and connection requirements • Used professional etiquette while working with teams internally and externally of various trades for coordination of complex projects • Maintained excellent time management skills in a fast paced, production-driven environment, with a steep learning curve • Managed piece ticket drawing efforts of precast components in order to maintain tight production schedules

    • Structural Engineer Intern
      • May 2017 - Aug 2017

      • Performed structural design & analysis of steel structures using governing codes & methods such as LRFD, ACI 318, AISC Steel Manual, ASCE 7-10 (ASCE 7-05), and IBC 2009 (IBC 2013, IBC 2015). • Performed structural analysis checks on existing structures. (E.g. analysis of additional snow drift loads on beams of existing structures due to a future structure being built adjacent to it) • Modeled complex structures (E.g. large manufacturing and production buildings with unique dimensions) in STAAD Pro in order to evaluate effects of seismic, wind, and special torsional load cases in addition to live loads, dead loads, live roof loads, etc... • Modeled structures and structural components (E.g. specific connections and foundation elements) from start to finish including the application of release commands and assigning steel sections, beta commands in order to rotate sections as necessary, slave commands in order to model composite decks, and assigning supports. • Made conservative design decisions when modeling seismic loads on structures in STAAD Pro. (E.g. calculating Cs values using conservative assumptions and readjusting calculations as needed after post-processing) • Performed Post-Processing in STADD Pro and adjusted steel section sizes based on utility ratios and deflection allowance. • Drafted framing and elevation plans in addition to structural component and connection details using AutoCAD. • Collaborated with CRB's Structural Expert Team during monthly meetings in order to develop company-wide AutoCAD standards that would ease teamwork across offices.
