Emelia worked as a Student Ambassador for the Music Department at the University of Birmingham. This role involved conducting campus tours, event assistance and talking passionately about the programme and the University to a wide range of people - from enquirers, applicants and parents, to academics and professional staff. I have found her to be highly reliable, personable and professional - and would recommend her as an asset to any team.

    • Lead supervisor - Youth support worker
      • Sep 2020 - Jun 2022

A blended role of coffee shop supervisor with elements of youth work, supporting a diverse group of vulnerable young people.I work with team members aged 16-23, referred from other youth organisations, schools, young offenders services, or from internal referrals from Regenerate's own services. They experience obstacles that have prevented them from engaging in education, employment, or training. These range from previous offending and socio-economic disadvantage to SEN, ADHD and ASD.As supervisor, I am responsible for the day-to-day operation of the coffee cart, providing warm customer service and modelling hospitality skills to the young people I am working with. I provide training and ad hoc coaching in barista skills and customer service.Alongside this employment-specific training I support team members' wider personal development. Through building trust and rapport with them, I am able to gain insight into the obstacles that have prevented them from gaining skills such as impulse inhibition and time-management. From there, I collaborate with the young person to work around those obstacles to facilitate the learning of these skills. I work with other shift supervisors and our wellbeing and development coordinator to maintain records of staff members' progress, and to monitor the impact of our service.I relish the opportunity to grow as a youth practitioner. I use reflective practice, learning from my peers and from external supervision. I engage with training opportunities and am currently working on ways to integrate coaching techniques such as motivational interviewing into my practice.I worked independently to implement processes and standard procedures for managing stock and hygiene. I took the initiative to set up online checklists which were quickly adopted by our whole team, simplifying the record-keeping process and demonstrating a readiness to adapt to the 'new normal' of remote working by facilitating managers' remote access to our records.

    • Plougheranger - front of house all-rounder
      • Aug 2019 - Aug 2020

As a 'Plougheranger', I am a core member of the full-time all-round FOH team at the Plough, undertaking varied duties as a waitress, bartender, host, and barista. I have made the most of the varied role and fast-paced environment at the Plough to throw myself into learning new skills - from crafting delicious artisan coffee, to de-escalating situations with confrontational customers, to learning about natural wines and speciality spirits, to hosting private events and meetings. Each shift is different at the Plough and I am ready to jump into any FOH role as required, but most often I work in a leadership role as 'Pass Captain', where I act as a liaison between the kitchen and the rest of the FOH staff to ensure smooth running of food services. I am responsible for liaising with the head chef to co-ordinate orders across three busy kitchens, ensuring the quality of food leaving the kitchen, and managing a team of runners during busy services. I support the food runners to provide warm and effective customer service, and help them to deal with customer requests and complaints, through clear and friendly communication and by authorising any refunds or complimentary drinks. I have also taken on additional responsibilities in assisting with training new bar and floor staff.
