Kamal saw the opportunity in our space long before the broader market did, and took the initiative to move forward with research. Among over a hundred institutional investors who have done due diligence on our platform, Kamal was the most thorough.

With decadeslong experience across global institutional alternatives research, portfolio management and corporate finance, I founded Emerging Markets Alternatives (EMA-pronounced Ê-MA) with an aim to democratize independent investment audit (a.k.a. due diligence) of alternative strategies (including sustainable/impact investments) practiced by emerging managers in developed and emerging markets for LPs and GPs, alike. EMA is analogous to a rating agency/financial audit firm that can be retained for its audit services by either sophisticated investors (Limited Partners- LPs) or investment managers (General Partners-GPs). As the "LPs’ Watchdog", EMA offers intellectually honest, knowledge transfer from GPs to LPs from LPs’ perspective. GPs (practicing alternative strategies in emerging markets, with a compelling value proposition, espousing transparency) benefit from: • an independent investment audit of their investment offerings prior to approaching a broad swath of LPs thus fast-tracking their capital-raising process. LPs also benefit from: • an independent resource (acting as an extension of their investment office) beyond their internal/external resources to diligence alternative strategies overcoming any challenges of time, resource and expertise. The complexity surrounding alternative strategies in developed and developing markets proves challenging for many investment managers to explain their value proposition from LPs' perspective, transparently and comprehensively and for many LPs to diligence, adequately and holistically. EMA’s audit conducted in accordance with CFA Institute Standards of Professional Conduct, aims to allow advanced dialogues between GPs and LPs leading to informed and quicker decisions. EMA’s audit does not provide any investment recommendation nor it is an offer to buy or sell an investment. EMA is not a placement agent. Thought-leadership, investment due-diligence and advising institutional clients sums up my seven years at NEPC. I spearheaded research and due diligence of alternative strategies in emerging markets with a focus on Asia. From private credit to non-performing loans in China to securitization of Asian credit and beyond, I straddled across the liquidity and asset class spectrums in the pursuit of inefficiency and complexity premiums. As a regular speaker on the institutional speaking circuit I shared my perspectives on alternative strategies in emerging markets. I also led research of custom solution capabilities (including co-investments) of multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge funds that powered my global investment perspectives to construct multi-asset portfolios. I also authored a whitepaper on multi-strategy fund of hedge funds “Assessing the Value of Multi-Strategy Hedge Funds” and contributed to many a thought-leadership initiative. Show less

As Portfolio Manager at US Trust Private Wealth Management for family offices, high net-worth clients, endowments and foundations , I was responsible for constructing and managing multi-asset, multi-manager global portfolios with a strong bias toward alternative strategies. I also researched and evaluated alternative strategies to identify competitive best-of-breed solutions. I also co-led the Banks' Asian Leadership Network and was a member of the Bank's pilot-team for collaboration, strategy development and implementation of its Asian Strategic Partnerships and Global Delivery Solutions based overseas.
