Founded in March of 2016, the BarberQue project aimed to raise awareness around the issue of homelessness in Chicago by marrying the functionality of a barbershop with the delicious grub of a barbecue. Our mission was to provide resources to a marginalized and often alienated group of people, create awareness around the issue of homelessness in Chicago, and build a community of acceptance and support. SELECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS► The 2016 event fed over 300 people, provided 70+ free haircuts, and gave away 2000+ articles of clothing. ► The 2017 event fed over 500 people, provided 168 haircuts, and gave away 3000+ articles of clothing. ► The 2018 event feed over 500 people, provided 150+ haircuts, and gave away 3000+ articles of clothing. Participants gained access to a variety of social service organizations including health screenings, shelters, and job placement programs.
