I had the chance to interact with Elvir when he was following an awareness course under my academic direction in the area of marine pollution prevention and management with Lloyd's Maritime Academy. Since then we continued to stay in touch and I have been following with great interest his development and his continued efforts to stay active in the industry after such a great exposure as a Chief Engineer at Panama Canal and his service with the Navy in the US. Chief Engineer, Towboat Branch.Work Experience Panama Canal Authority, ACP May 1989-May2017 Chief Engineer. Twenty-eight (28) years of Service with Panama Canal Towboat Branch. The Towboat Fleet is conformed by a variety of Tugs Class, from: Conventional Propulsion to Voith-Schneider, GII unit 28G; Azimuthal Wartsila Lips FS250-S/BN-K and SRPs, Schottel Rudder Propeller. Vast experience in Azimuthal Propulsion, specially Schottel Rudderpropeller systems. Also, experience with Lufkin and Falk reduction gears. Main Engines experience with EMDs 645-E6, 3000 HP; DEUTZ SBV-8M-628, 4400 HP; WARTSILA 9L20, 1800Kw; GE 12V228, 2180Kw and GE 8L250 2330Kw on the latter generation of Tractor Tugs. Auxiliary engines: Detroit Diesel, Series 60; Deutz 2010 and Caterpillar. Responsibilities onboard included but not limited to Operation and Maintenance of Main Engines and Auxiliary systems. Watch-Standing, Administration, Logistics, Supervision of personnel during Out of Service Maintenance and Overhauls, Supervision and/or Training of Junior Engineers and Rating personnel. Supervision during Shipyard maintenance, repairs and improvements onboard assigned Tug. Troubleshooting/Problem solving of Mechanical as well as Electronic systems onboard. Refueling Evolutions. Supervision and Operation of Pollution Management and Control systems onboard. Retirement in May 2017 after 28 years of constant and loyal Service. Show less
