I’ve personally worked with Ms. Kelly and can attest to her knowledge and professionalism. When I was developing a plan to start my business, Ms. Kelly sat down with me and helped me outline my business’ communications plan and vision. Because of her multifaceted experience with planning, operations, and strategic communications, I now have officially launched my business resulting in contract acquisitions. As a public affairs practitioner for the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg Garrison, I had the opportunity to work in all the pillars of public affairs. I began as a social media strategist and videographer, resulting in an award-winning digital media platform, to developing relationships with our media colleagues as a media relations specialist. From website development to being action officer for high-visibility visits and crisis communications, my time with the Garrison built a solid foundation in becoming a well-rounded and balanced public affairs professional. This is where I learned how to develop communications plans and public affairs guidances for the team, eventually becoming the deputy public affairs officer. Show less

I served as a public affairs liaison between the 1st Armored Division-Fort Bliss and the Department of Health and Human Services during the Unaccompanied Migrant Children mission near the Texas-Mexico border. This opportunity was a true multi-federal agency effort working together in an effort to help the children and fellow government agencies. I supported the mission not only as a liaison, but as an English-Spanish translator, creating lifelong professional relationships. Managing Editor and Broadcast Personality in Command Information at Public Affairs
-
Jan 2011 - Mar 2016
Everyone has a story to tell, and I helped tell our Army story in our award-winning print and broadcast platforms, which resulted in our messages and initiatives being heard by our soldiers, their families, and our stakeholders. I began as a military writer, covering stories around the Marne Division, eventually becoming the managing editor of the Frontline Newspaper, Quality Time Magazine, and a personality on the Marne Report “On the Frontline with Elvia Kelly.” Serving as a civil service public affairs practitioner at Fort Stewart taught me how to share the Army’s story operationally and tactically. This experience afforded me the opportunity to work as a team during presidential and high-visibility visits to telling a story of triumph from our military family members. I’m immeasurably grateful for the opportunities and skills I’ve learned here, in which I apply to the career field today via professionally and through mentorship. Show less

Public Affairs Apprentice
-
Aug 2010 - Oct 2010
Following my internship at U.S. Army Special Operations Command, I relocated to the home of the 3rd Infantry Division in southern Georgia as an Army spouse. Determined to continue contributing to the public affairs career field, I became a volunteer as a writer for the installation’s newspaper The Frontline. This opportunity opened the door in becoming a public affairs specialist under the pillar of Command Information for the public affairs office. My experience at 3rd ID built a strong foundation in writing and learning what it takes to be an editor for a newspaper, a magazine, and contribute to script writing. Show less

Public Affairs Intern
-
May 2008 - Dec 2009
This is where my public affairs career started - as an intern at the home of the airborne and special operations forces. Through the Student Employment Program offered at my university, I had the opportunity to begin the foundation of my public affairs career at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command as a college student, where I learned the basics of video editing, photography for official ceremonies, and the importance of building working relationships. I didn’t know this at the time, but this was the road that would lead to over a decade as a public affairs practitioner within the Department of Army. Show less
