Betsy spoke to our women’s group on situational leadership. She was very engaging and everyone enjoyed session. She gave excellent tips and made it clear that we all have a choice!

Megan R. Bell, MPM, PMP

Betsy helped facilitate pilot career development classes for an internal program at BlueCross NC. She was very collaborative with the team bringing her own expertise to the conversation while incorporating the goals of the program. She brought positive energy to the sessions and created a learning environment in which participants actively engaged in the conversations. It was a pleasure working with her and I hope to again.

Experience

    • Leadership Development Expert and Training and Program Leader
      • Jan 2004 - Present

If you are thinking about engaging a coach, I invite you to contact me and schedule a complimentary session to determine whether we are a good fit. Here are some questions to consider: Are you doing work that brings you joy? Are you appreciated and rewarded for your contribution? Is it time to consider a change? Are you ready to take the next leap in your career? In addition to one-on-one coaching, I deliver dynamic talks, executive and leadership coaching and training/workshop facilitation, and custom programs tailored to your needs. As promised in the summary above, here are a few illustrations of the work I do and the results achieved. What do I want? I want all women to be empowered and to love and appreciate themselves. If I could wave a magic wand I would transfer my characteristics of self-worth, confidence, and courage to other women by a mere touch. Since magic wands don’t actually exist, I coach women to claim their value and leverage their human capital – because the first step to confidence and courage is to choose to be powerful and love and appreciate yourself. How do I work? Workshops are one of my favorite platforms – both online and offline – having spoken to groups from 10-500 about leadership, confidence, and courage. What makes me the expert? In many of the roles I’ve held, I was one of if not “the” first woman leader; and I understand what it takes for career women to get a raise, promotion, special project, corner office, or to merely be heard at work. Having overcome the obstacles myself, I know on a very personal level how to help women create and implement strategies for defining what success means to them and then pursuing and achieving it. With graduate level training in negotiation and experience serving as the chief negotiator in collective bargaining, I encourage and coach women to find their voice and shift their thinking from negotiating to having a conversation.

    • Executive Partner - Leadership Development for Nurses at The Shift Change Coaching Group
      • Oct 2008 - Sep 2010

We provided professional coaching to assist nurses to move from surviving to thriving and help healthcare institutions address the nursing shortage. Rather than developing strategies to throw more money at the problem, we worked with their intrinsic needs – life balance, establishing boundaries, self-care before care of others, living their passion, and identifying their values. The Junior Achievement Executive Director and her board hired me to facilitate their strategic planning and provide one-on-one leadership coaching to the ED. At the end of the year, they had recruited numerous new board members and had successfully completed their first fundraising event, which exceeded their goal. I truly loved leading this health-related campus. My relator strength enabled me to build strong on-campus relationships, as well as ones between the campus and the community. During my tenure, results included a new building, increased programs and enrollment, and so much more.

To build relationships with incoming high school graduates, I created Kids College, which fast became a revenue generator as well as a recruitment tool. For those who were still young at heart, I also generated more revenue and brand recognition by initiating what continues to be a thriving Elder Hostel, now known as Roads Scholar.
