• Pearl Mussel ARK Project, Project Officer

  I first joined the FBA in 2011 for 3 months as part of a Leonardo da Vinci Internship, as a volunteer in the hatchery. Since April 2012, I am the Project Officer for the Pearl Mussel Ark, a captive breeding project for this critically endangered species (Margaritifera margaritifera). My role involves looking after the different populations of adult mussels kept in captivity and to ensure that they breed with success by providing an appropriate habitat in our facilities for both the adult and juvenile mussels.I am also involved in the husbandry of their host fish (Salmo trutta, Salmo salar and Salvelinus alpinus) and analysis of the data collected during our captive breeding activities, in order to improve the understanding of this endangered species
