Ensure reliability and availability of locomotive fleet by carrying out maintenance to minimize unplanned downtime. Identify equipment failure patterns. Project management, control and execution of projects required for locomotive maintenance engineering Applying different maintenance philosophies to counteract failures. Continuously adapt and improve maintenance plans for my particular geographical area. Shutdown Planning Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) for failure analysis and the application of the maintenance plan Ensure that the costs (budget) allocated to the locomotive fleet is continuously monitored and optimized. Identify training and provide leadership to depot personnel, and staff. Investigate and Identify inferior material, from failure analysis and recommend material specification changes. Implementation of control measures to ensure locomotive maintenance plans are executed as per the maintenance plan, within budget and at the required standards, (technical audits, statistical data analysis). Intervention with production, external suppliers, internal suppliers in order to resolve deviation from the plan or quality problems. Plan components and verify supply against technical specifications Root cause analysis and measurements for optimization of maintenance. Formal project management as delegated by the Senior Manager -Fleet Maintenance. Initiate, and monitor modifications, commissioning, and control work loading at depot level Prepare reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving operations and solving maintenance¬related problems. Supply on the job training to fault personnel. Analyse component performance to identify failure trends and recommend changes to the maintenance plan to eradicate these failures by applying the Pareto principle and Root cause Analysis techniques Condition monitoring of engine, compressor oil and coolant analysis results from labratorium to prevent possible engine, compressor and cooling systems failures. Do in service and commissioning tests on locomotive consists to verify locomotive train handling performance. Conduct technical investigations and write technical reports with recommendations to improve performance and reliability Manage and co-ordinate various projects implemented on locomotive fleet to ensure projects are completed timeously. Do preventative maintenance by downloading history from ECU (Engine Control Unit) and analyse the information to prevent future failures. Liaise with various internal and external customers and suppliers with regards to equipment to be manufactured and items to be sourced in order to complete the projects on time. Compile and submit monthly performance presentations of locomotive fleet. Give feedback with regards to what went wrong when targets weren’t achieved and provide action plans to prevent re-occurrence. Continuously monitor wear rates to ensure that there are no abnormal changes in normal operating parameters. Analyse fault data to determine the most likely root cause of failure.
