This role involved - Developing a codebase in C++, Java and Python. - Working with embeded devices and managing data flow. - Use of cloud services including AWS and Azure. - Advanced data anlysis techniques including machine learning. - Liaising with customers regarding technical elements of the business. - Writing tests for the software including both end-to-end and unit tests. - Maintaining a CI pipeline using Jenkins. In this role I made vast improvements to the integrety of the data acquisition and transfer. Along side this, I developed a neural network model that effectively and efficiently classified partial discharge pulses. On top of my development role, I spend some time supporting the comissioning and maintenance of equipment on site. This involved travel to a number of countries including Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Canada and the USA. Show less

During this project I investigated the feasibility of creating tunable phononic crystals for soundproofing applications. Links were made with academics in Manchester and Sheffield in order to carry out experiments to test the theoretical results I developed in the mathematics department. The success of the project is evidenced by the fact that additional funding was acquired from the company partner to carry out further work and keep my position at the university ongoing for a total length of 18 months. Through the course of my PhD I studied the propagation of waves and pulses through complex materials. In particular, I looked at: - Existence of stop bands and forbidden frequencies, - Use of the planewave expansion method to model periodic structures, - Homogenization methods used to simplify complex systems, - Time domain analysis using Fourier transforms and complex variable theory. The most notable results of my PhD include: - Modelling of small amplitude waves in heterogeneous prestressed elastic solids, - Development of a suite of code in Matlab used to find the dispersion diagrams for two dimensional periodic solids, - Analytic modelling of transient waves in periodic structures in the time domain, - Investigating the energy input into periodic systems in different regimes.
