Thesis title: Advanced building envelopes: opportunities, challenges, and future outlooks in building performance simulation. Read and download it for free here: https://hdl.handle.net/11250/2774004 Advanced multi-functional building envelopes (ABEs) present new challenges in terms of design and operation because they must simultaneously fulfill different and sometimes competing requirements. Co-simulation, parametrization and optimization are key tools that can allow overcoming these challenges and help improve the overall performance of multi-functional building envelopes. This in turn, reduces energy use and increases renewable energy use which together can help make buildings more sustainable. The overarching goal of the work presented in this thesis is to investigate the current opportunities and challenges associated with using building performance simulation as a tool to support the implementation of advanced building envelopes. This aim is expressed as three key research questions:  Which elements must be considered when designing advanced envelopes for optimal performance at buildings and neighborhood scale?  How can advanced simulation tools and techniques be used to improve the design and the performance of advanced building envelopes?  What are the opportunities, challenges, and trade-offs associated with modelling and simulating advanced building envelopes in a perspective of performance-based design? I worked as an intern for the general contractor GSE GROUP, specialized in turn key contracts. I worked as a business engineer assistant and on site coordinator for the environmental certification of a logistic building of 70 000 m² (HQE excellent/ breeam outstanding). My tasks were mainly linked to technical compliance, helping with contracting and procurement aspects as well as communication with the client and different subcontracted companies. I was also asked to contact companies in order to obtain cost estimates for their services. I negotiated prices and selected the best offers based on price and quality of the service provided. I checked the compliance of clothes and added tags, spare buttons etc. I packed and prepped clothes for world wide shipping.
