  • Cura
    • London, United Kingdom
    • Commisioning Editor
      • Feb 2012 - Jun 2012

As part of my final degree show, i was involved in the production of a publication entitled Cura which took the place of the usual show catalogue. We felt that, as our course is mainly written based, this would be a better representation of our time. Cura looks at the role of curation today, what different organisations/ professionals may deem as 'curating' and what other terms have spawned off of this buzz word. Articles included 'How To Curate A Door', 'Curating Food', as well as my piece- an interview with The Guardian on how they use curation online with their magazine G2. I was involved in commissioning pieces, organising and helping with the design of the publication, proofing copy and the overall feel of the magazine alongside four of my classmates and four BA Graphic Design students. The magazine was distributed throughout the degree show with a print run of 400. We were also lucky enough to be nominated for the NOVA Award for 'outstanding graduates' at Central Saint Martins. • Co-Curator
      • Feb 2012 - Jun 2012

Degree show exhibition in the form of a classroom, centred around a child genius named Claudia who also 'co-curated' the show. She was mythical, exploring the positioning of curatorial teaching in CSM within today's cultural climate. Included were works by David Shrigley and fellow students, as well as a curated cloakroom. Local Anaesthesia was an exhibition originally thought up through a University brief, which my team were lucky enough to win, meaning we got to realise the project. It consisted of two strands: a static exhibition at the 198 Gallery in Brixton and a bank holiday weekend pop-up exhibition in New Cross which focused on a sound scape created by artist and lecturer J Milo Taylor. I co-curated the exhibition with three other students. Sketchbook Magazine had the opportunity of having a pop- up space in Central London for around one month and I was lucky enough to work with the curator of the space. There were two exhibitions held: one displaying artists the magazine had previously used and the other showcasing illustrator John Paul Thurlow's sketches of magazine covers. I was there to help choose the illusrators we used for the first exhibition and how to hang and where to hang them. I helped with both private views, making sure the set up went smoothly for both and helped hang all the works we used. As well as this I was on hand to help with social media such as twitter. • Education Assistant
      • Sep 2008 - Sep 2009

I worked with Aspex Gallery for a year originally volunteering for 2 hours a week with whatever the gallery needed help with. This evolved into helping running the Saturday morning kids club which involved helping think up ideas for what to do with the children and making sure it was relevant to the current shows that were being put on. I also helped with documenting this and setting up their Flickr account. I also helped set up shows for different artists including photographer Julian Germain that meant helping him framing works as well as choosing where the works were placed within the exhibition space. I also helped to promote the gallery in and around Portsmouth. Show less
