Tropical internship

Research topic: "Research on personality traits of Mastomys natalensis." → Working together with foreign students | First acquaintance with the scientific method | Problem solving and critical thinking | Excel | R. During the tropical internship, organised by the University of Antwerp and in cooperation with Sokoine University of Agriculture, I investigated personality traits of the natal multimammate mouse (Mastomys natalensis). Together with my fellow students, I caught wild mice in cornfields in Morogoro, Tanzania. Afterwards I observed their behaviour in a hole board experiment and scored the different personality characteristics. I analysed and compared the obtained data using the statistical program RStudio. Finally, all my results and the overall conclusion were shared in my bachelor’s thesis. This field course was my first acquaintance with the scientific method as well as working together with local students. Communicating in an international context, solving problems on the spot and thinking critically are traits that I acquired thanks to this internship. Show less
