I managed a student-designed machine project for an Intro to Mechanical Design course that involved the students of two classes working together to build a Rube Goldberg-type machine called the "Big Machine". Part of the success of this project was due to my collaboration with the professors as well as guiding students through the design process. • Aug 2013 - May 2015

From Jan 2014 to May 2015, I worked under the supervision of Dr. Laura Schaefer studying heat transfer in fluids. Specifically, researching and determining physical methods of capturing two-phase flow in a micro-scale heat pipe. Alongside this research, I also gathered information on various cooling methods for solar concentrating photovoltaic cells to add to a grant proposal. From May 2013 to Dec 2013, I gained my first reseaching experience studying computational fluid dynamics under my adviser, Dr. Peyman Givi. I shadowed graduate students during their thesis work and improved my problem solving skills by learning basic Fortran coding. Show less

      • Aug 2012 - Dec 2012

As a mechanical engineering intern, I tested parts of a brake resistor assembly for a project within Bombardier's Propulsion and Controls Division. The goal of this project was to ensure that switching to a different bolt coating would not impair the reliability of the brake resistor. In this role I consulted the lead engineer to approve testing methods, ordered parts for testing, and analyzed and summarized the data I collected. I received high voltage safety training to work in their on-site testing facility. Show less

I performed site surveys using a laser level and assisted landscape designer with installation of features. I then prepared site sketches for residential and commercial landscape design. In addition, I estimated and procured landscape construction materials. I also communicated with design clients during this process.
