My most common areas of practice are; employment and criminal law. In these practice areas I have had the opportunity to appear in Tribunal hearings at the Fair Work Commission and Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission, in addition to matters heard in the District, Supreme and Magistrates Courts. Often these processes, in particular Tribunal matters require lengthy negotiations and dispute resolution in order to arrive at an amicable resolution for the parties involved. Since being admitted I have had the opportunity to conduct trials in the Perth Magistrates Court with respect to summary criminal offences and General Procedure Claims. I have participated in lengthy trials and the sentencing process in the District Court of Western Australia, including preparing submissions for the Sentencing Judge and appearing for the sentencing process. Whilst a work experience clerk with iLaw Barristers and Solicitors I assisted senior solicitors and partners with trial preparation, drafting of submissions and various applications. I also had numerous opportunities to expand my advocacy skills in Tribunal hearings with VCAT, NCAT, QCAT and the Fair Work Commission. Initially my role was primarily to assist solicitors prior to and at the hearings, eventually, I conducted the hearings, trials and applications with little assistance from senior lawyers. In 2012 whilst studying in University I conducted a full trial in the Perth Magistrates Court in a Minor Case Claim on behalf of an in-house counsel corporation. The case was successful and I gained practical experience in unassisted examination-in-chief and cross-examination within the courtroom. Show less

Whilst with the ODPP (WA) I assisted with a trial relating to charges of Grievous Bodily Harm and aiding and abetting an act of grievous bodily harm. This experience gave me great insight into the process of criminal prosecutions and District Court trials.
