The Dalbeattie Community Initative operates the Dalbeattie Visitor Information Point (VIP), which is based at 24 High Street. This has proved to be a successful enterprise and, in managing it, I dealt with such matters as vistor interaction, sales, stock selection, presentation and pricing policy. I also liaised with a large group of local artists and craftspeople who's work was sold in the shop, and I supervised the fantastic group of volunteers who provided the essential staff which made the VIP work.

Blackstone Garden Plants was a plant nursery that specialised in plants for wildlife. We also stocked nature related items such as nature books, wildflower seeds, birdboxes and insect homes. There was an emphasis on getting children excited about wildlife and gardening, with child friendly wildlife toys, puppets and games.I also ran a gardening club at the local primary school.
