• Lyman Estate Tour Guide

  The Lyman Estate, also known as “the Vale,” is a National Historic Landmark following eighteenth-century English naturalistic design. The estate’s greenhouse complex is one of the oldest surviving examples in the country. The Lyman Estate was featured in the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig. Guides conduct tours and assist with daily museum operations, including online ticketing, membership sales, and opening and closing the museum. My peers and I prepared for the virtual event by studying Lyon’s life and work and brainstorming questions, such as the influence of his friendship with John Lewis on his work and the impact of social media on documentary photography.   I was one of two students selected in Massachusetts to be a fellow in 2019. Through researching primary sources, including letters, I explored Abigail Adams’ diplomatic missions to England and France and her evolving views on patriotism, economics, and education in the newly formed the United States of America. I presented my findings by creating a website to make the information accessible and understandable for a wide range of audiences: https://sites.google.com/view/adamsineurope/home I was one of two students selected in Massachusetts to be a fellow in 2019. • Teens Behind the Scenes

  The Teens Behind the Scenes program trained a small team of high school art enthusiasts to be museum ambassadors. The Teens explored museum careers by learning from staff about different museum functions and meeting with Artists in Residence. The Teens planned and hosted events, including an annual “Teen Takeover,” a night created by teens for teens that included performances, art projects, and creative workshops. Throughout the year, we facilitated interactive art-making activities with visitors on weekends and during vacations. Show less
