Alongside my colleagues at VAL, I support leaders in building businesses that are pushing the boundaries forward in healthcare, life science, and (occasionally) social impact. This also means that our clients tend to be in high-risk situations: new and emerging markets with developing regulatory pathways with limited or sparse sales and market data. For both our startup and our investor clients, we help build the "best possible situation" go-to-market models and strategies to mitigate those risks. Our work with institutional funds is similarly developed to mitigate risks--on both individual and portfolio-wide levels. But we believe that failure isn't often present at the start: it arrives post-investment. So instead of stopping at due diligence, we partner with investors to provide ongoing, iterative market research, commercial modeling, and go-to-market support. Ultimately, this becomes more focused on maximizing returns and resources. Our clients range from early stage (seed, F&F) startups to growth companies (Series A & B) to large corporations with new products and business units that require third-party validation and support. We work almost entirely in healthcare and life science, with special interests in medical devices and diagnostics. Show less

Thin as a sock, it's a breathable, anti-bacterial device that both reduces the likelihood of a dislocation (and the severity thereof). But unlike big, bulky knee braces designed to limit movement after an accident, this brace is designed to encourage correct patellar movement and stimulate the stabilizing inner quad. Our goal is to bring safety and stability to those who suffer recurring patellar dislocations. Ultimately, we aim to manufacture and bring this product to low-income patients, particularly in the developing world, who may not be able to have surgery. Our research has been conducted and supported with teams at the University of Texas at Austin's Biomedical Engineering and Kinesiology departments and the Texas Medical Center. Show less
