The Clinic offers free legal advice to clients with matters concerning employment, immigration, housing, and family law. The Clinic has also introduced a Windrush Scheme in partnership with other legal advice clinics. As an advisor for the housing clinic I am responsible for meeting and interviewing clients on complex cases and contract disputes. I can use Clio Legal Management Software effectively to organise client details and upload documents. Part of my responsibility is reviewing large quantities of documents including leases and contracts and researching the relevant statute and case law. I am also responsible for drafting and finalising a researched advice letter in accordance with the clinic’s policies and procedures. As an advisor I have improved my organisational skills and have achieved certified advanced research skills on Westlaw and LexisNexis. I have advised on many cases such as: • Sub-standard housing I dealt with a client living in sub-standard housing conditions, where we resolved the landlord’s requirements to update, resulting in healthy and safe place for our client to continue to live. • Service charge disputes I gave information on a managing agent dispute over service charge. Where we resolved the matter by giving information on the court’s procedure available to the client. • Deposit retrieval Consulted a client on retrieving a deposit after the landlord failed to protect it. Gave information on the tribunal procedure available. Show less

I was responsible for organising staff, handling customer queries and balancing the tills at the end of each shift. Other responsibilities I gained are keeping maintenance of sales records whilst ensuring weekly sales targets and accounts are met. During my time in this role I acquired excellent people skills and experience of working in a team. Working with the public also requires me to use my initiative and challenged me to work under pressure in a fast pace industry.
