  Acting under a message of consensual support from my Quaker Meeting in Asheville, NC, I was one of the 1750 people who went to jail to help stop the use of the inhabited Island of Vieques off of Puerto Rico, as a bombing range.   The PEC was dedicated to uniting the Peace and Environmental movements, bringing to public consciousness that war was the most envirnomentally destructive act in which we engage. We were responsible for standing in opposition to the Gulf war within two miles of the Navy War College, in Newport RI. We saved 26 acres of rainforest in Costa Rica. We received a letter of thanks from the United Nations Center on Apartheid for our work on the South Africa embargo.
