Dive Coordinator/Assistant Operations Manager for Ultra Coral Australia (contracted by GBRMPA) on the Crown of Thorns Starfish Control Program, Swains Reef area. • I recorded, compiled and managed all dive, cull and survey data to be sent to GBRMPA after each two-week voyage. • I coordinated daily dives and divers, determining appropriate dive profiles and survey sites based on conditions, time and previous survey data. • As a research diver, I conducted Reef Health Impact Surveys, Manta Tow surveys, and Crown of Thorns cull dives, using surface-supplied air (SSBA), SCUBA and snorkel • I conducted plankton sampling for AIMS’s Crown of Thorns plankton distribution and abundance study. • I operated tenders as a Coxswain. • I was originally employed as a Diver/Coxswain and received a promotion to this position during the 9-month contract.

Located on Beqa Island, Fiji. • I was responsible for assisting the Principal Scientific Investigator with coral reef health surveys, data collation, analysis and scientific report writing, as well as managing and training volunteers to conduct fish and benthic surveys. • I liaised with local Fijian communities and maintained a good relationship between locals and the Project. • I conducted Fish species abundance and diversity surveys using underwater transect methods. • I also established an on-going mangrove health survey. • The Project was located in Beqa, a remote island in Fiji. Power supply was limited and living conditions were very basic.
