      Prior to joining the staff at Verite, Elizabeth had an academic career as a scholar and professor of cultural anthropology. In addition to visiting appointments at Smith College and Dartmouth College, she held a tenure-track position in the Department of Anthropology at Union College, where she also taught in the programs in Environmental Studies and African Studies. Elizabeth has conducted long-term field research in Southern and East Africa, and completed her doctoral research in Tanzania, where she studied the culture of the wildlife conservation and safari tourism industries. In 1999, she was involved in a high-profile incident at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, when Rwandan rebels attacked the park headquarters, abducting and killing a number of tourists.
