    • Medical Interpreter
      • Sep 2014 - Mar 2017

I bridged the linguistic gap between patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) and their HCMC care providers in 3 modalities: face-to-face, telephonic and video remote interpretation. I also served as a cultural broker where divergent practices and perspectives jeopardised the mutual understanding essential to providing superior patient-, and family-centered health care. In addition to my standard duties, I designed the LEAN-compliant Visual Management Board (VMB) for our 150-member department, which received honors for the clarity and creativity of its design. I also participated in a system-wide initiative called "Building Connections," and became a staff trainer and mentor at HCMC's model cell (Whittier Community Health Clinic), helping the providers there to enact HCMC's policy of "patient-centered care" to the utmost of their abilities. Lastly, I rewrote the Annual Required Training (ART) online education module that was rolled out in 2017 to educate employees of Hennepin Health System how best to access and use interpreter services. I am proficient in e-billing, documentation, coaching, and coordinating/facilitating multi-party communications. Show less

I served as a linguistic interface between English-speaking medical professionals and their Spanish-speaking clients during both in-clinic and at-home appointments. Due to a high incidence of personal requests from providers and patients alike, I accrued particular experience in providing interpretive services during patient intakes and evaluations, and therapy sessions for children with Spectrum Disorders. I provided all parties with confidential, precise, culturally-sensitive language services, and occasionally collaborated with clinicians and therapists to improve and, where lacking, create written translations of informational materials and standardized evaluation tools.
