I enjoy residential design for its personable nature, but also have a particular interest in designing hotel environments, which stemmed from residing in them throughout my childhood. For 3 years I worked in a hotel to broaden my thinking past the guest experience to that of a staff member. I did this in order to gain first-hand research in preparation for my self-directed Graduating Honours Project, Commune, which aimed to use spatial design to mitigate abuse against staff in the servicescape. The contrasting experiences I've had of being a guest and a staff member has given me a very unique understanding of the hospitality sector - highlighting how crucial it is to design hospitality environments for guests, but more particularly, the staff, so they are able to work within a functional, positive and safe environment so not to hinder operations.
