Editing
-
Aug 2008 - May 2019
Since 2008, I’ve used critical theory and strong language skills to edit for clients in various fields. I have edited journal articles, chapters, proposals, and award-winning dissertations and theses for people writing about ethics, nursing, engineering, history, business, physics and Indigenous studies. Most recently, I edited a book and several other publications on healthcare ethics. I contributed to editing an award winning memoir, and the soon-to-be published biography of an early Canadian ethnographer. I’ve edited fiction and provided writing and design feedback for consultants’ and not-for-profit groups’ websites.

Research, Writing and Transcription
-
Aug 2006 - Apr 2017
I’ve researched for authors and groups using archival, internet and documentary sources. In 2014, I worked with an Ashcroft band representative to research land use and reserve formation. I have conducted research interviews for clients, and for the Cultural Capital During Migration project in 2006 and 2007, transcribing and analyzing the interviews. For my own MA research, I wrote about ethical listening practices and then employed these when interviewing various people in Indigenous communities in BC.In 2014, I ran several workshops on ethical qualitative research practice and ethical listening for students at the University of Victoria. Over the years, I’ve developed careful transcription practices and used them when transcribing interviews for First Nations communities, healthcare and ethics researchers, and others.I’ve written for academic audiences, for web users and for job seekers. Most recently, I worked with the Upper Nicola Band on several traditional land use studies, assessing data, transcribing interviews and writing a report. In 2011, I wrote and ran a writing seminar at the University of Victoria based on my own experiences in crafting text. I’ve helped clients to create resumes and cover letters.
