In parallel to giving birth to and caring for three children, I kept up to date with legal and institutional developments in my areas of expertise as well as engaging with new areas of law, procedure and policy. In particular, I developed in-depth expertise of intellectual property law, completing a Masters degree at King’s College London (listed in the education section below), engaged myself in civil society movements concerned with gender equality, leading to my election as a Board Member of EWLA, and gained experience in putting together project proposals for EU funding, notably Horizon 2020. My principal task consisted in following the work of the Legal Affairs (JURI) Committee, of which Mrs Weber was a member, as well as the general legislative work of the Parliament in areas of particular interest to her, providing short yet comprehensive briefings and highlighting areas were action might be required on her part, presenting relevant options. A very significant part of my time was spent drafting a Legal Affairs Committee report in the area of company law, which Mrs Weber was the responsible Rapporteur for (Report on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Directives 77/91/EEC, 78/855/EEC and 82/891/EEC and Directive 2005/56/EC as regards reporting and documentation requirements in the case of merger and divisions - A6-0247/2009); this required me to get from scratch on top of an extremely technical area of law, coordinating the input of the various stakeholders as well as other parliamentary groups in order to develop a text which would accommodate all. The final version was adopted unanimously. Show less

Together with the other lawyers in the cabinet, I reviewed cases pending in front of the court. This work gave me a complete overview of the CFI’s and ECJ's case law, spanning from several Staff cases and Trade Mark disputes to the Competition and State Aid cases that constituted the main work of the chamber. As my main task during the traineeship, I drafted a preliminary report and a report for the hearing in a case concerning an alleged abuse of a dominant position. Employment law having long been one of my centres of interest, I seized this opportunity at DG Employment, working for Teresa Moitinho de Almeida, to carry out a wide range of legal research tasks across the field covered by the Unit. I in particular prepared a detailed legal analysis of the implementation of five EU Directives in the area of Health and Safety at Work into Romanian law, and was able to present the results of my work at a public presentation at the end of the stage.
