As a UCAP and Star case manager my duties are to seek to engage the community around me and provide support for families in crisis through education and connection to needed resources in the community. UCAP provides free services in the form of parenting classes, youth life skills training, mentor-ship, and crisis intervention. The goal of the services offered is to intervene and preemptively prevent child abuse through education and crisis intervention. The Star program allows for longer term one on one and family sessions to address the specific needs of the family as a whole and for the youth individually.

case managers are placed in the schools to aid and assist the school staff in the engagement of students that are at risk of drop out, the intention is to prevent a life course that will lead to dropping out of school through addressing issues with grades, attendance and behavior. I was placed in both elementary schools as well as in various middle schools and primarily focused on behavioral challenges alongside the school staff. In my last placement I was with a middle school and aided the administration staff in seeking to provide a safe learning environment for the student population while seeking to address the emotional and behavioral needs of the campus.
