TerraCorps Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator

As a TerraCorps member serving with Nuestras Raíces, I managed four capacity building projects: implementing a composting system on our 30-acre farm (La Finca), improving curriculum and recruiting new participants to our farmer training program, designing a medicinal herb garden, and coordinating a volunteer program at La Finca. Throughout these projects I also educated and trained community members and youth on sustainable agriculture practices and topics. Terrestrial Ecology Intern

I assisted Dr. John Parker in the Terrestrial Ecology Lab as part of the NSF funded post-bachelor REU program at SERC. I developed and conducted statistical analysis on the dataset collected in my previous internship at SERC. I wrote and edited a manuscript and submitted it for publication in Biological Invasions, where it is currently under review. Additionally, I collected tree core samples and estimated forest ages using dendrochronological methods. Program Coordinator

I coordinated, planned, and executed a two-day tree planting event in which volunteers planted around 200 trees as a part of an ongoing effort to reforest Beulah Presbyterian Church. I managed and supervised 20+ volunteers to delegate tasks, establish correct planting techniques, and ensure efficient completion of tasks. I communicated and collaborated with relevant stakeholders to discern future landscape plans and management strategies and guide ongoing efforts to use trees as a mitigation strategy for a nearby mobile pollution source. I conducted climate communication research on the attitude-behavior gap experienced in college students surrounding issues of sustainability and climate change. I developed and implemented surveys and interviews to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. I analyzed data and composed the findings into a professional written document and presentation.

Ecological Sciences Technician's Assistant

I aided and assisted in professional and student (graduate and undergraduate) research on invasive plant species in Southwestern Pennsylvania. I calculated and assessed forest plots for percent plant cover. Identified native and invasive plant and tree species for data collection. I collected seeds for the university seed bank.

Terrestrial Ecology Intern

As an intern, I assisted Dr. John Parker in the Terrestrial Ecology Lab as part of the NSF funded REU program at SERC. I conducted research on the public perception and awareness of invasive plants using Google Trends, iNaturalist, LexisNexis, and other online data sources. I collaborated with SERC ecologists to develop and evaluate methodology using the R programming language to analyze data and create publication-ready visuals. I presented our preliminary methodologies and research findings to the SERC community and beyond at multiple conferences. Show less

Eco-Artisan Intern

I was the intern designated to the Eco-Artisan Project. I initiated and organized eco-artisan workshops to teach artisans how to utilize nature in their art. I propagated around 300 artisanal trees and plant species for use of local artisans. I developed and assisted in the creation of an online GIS web map that marks the locations of artisanal plants in the Azuero Peninsula. I researched and created a guide on how to sustainably harvest and utilize artisanal plants. I promoted the Project by acting as the official photographer of the Eco-Artisan Project. Show less
