  This internship is part of a research project focused on the optimisation, by means of neural networks, of the Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm for the sampling of high-dimensional probability distributions. My contribution consisted of extending an existing MCMC algorithm, augmented with normalising flows, with the aim of improving its performance in the sampling of multi-modal distributions showing weak modes, i.e. modes with a relative weight significantly small with respect to the other ones.In practice, my main job has been to design the code for implementing this new version of the algorithm in the PyTorch framework, and to test it by performing numerical simulations.
