Bio
Victoria Backstrom
Elena was one of the teachers who most encouraged and inspired me through my four years of high school. I felt challenged and motivated in every class and learned so much. Her approach to teaching is very intuitive and thorough. I moved to Spain five years ago and thanks to my four years of classes with Elena the transition into Castilian life was quite smooth. I already had a very solid grammatical base, extensive practice in coloquial interactions and a good amount of experience in written expression. I will be ever grateful to Elena especially for who she is as a person but also for the hours she dedicated to me and my classmates, adapting to each student and helping each of us progress while feeling valued and inspired to do our best. ¡Gracias Elena!

Being Elena's Spanish student was a major reason why I loved taking Spanish classes in high school and felt compelled to continue speaking Spanish not only in other classes I took afterwards, but also with Spanish speakers in my community. She not only explained concepts and taught the language in an engaging, effective way, but her passion for the subject was evident. I also appreciated how she incorporated culture, not just language, in her class curriculum. I became a more knowledgeable and confident Spanish speaker thanks to her. Her excitement in the classroom as well as her supportiveness and kindness encouraged me as a student and made Spanish class a delight to take.
