Voluntary Digital Marketing Assistant
-
Nov 2015 - Present
Currently working as a digital marketing assistant, in a voluntary capacity, for an independent cinema. I feel very privileged to be helping such a prestigious charitable organisation and promoting engagement with the arts in my community. My responsibilities include writing the weekly, "eShot" - a condensed version of our monthly brochure highlighting the coming week's films, exhibitions and events. I use a combination of Photoshop and campaign monitor suites to achieve this and largely have free reign where copy writing is involved. I am also manager of our official blog, which I edit and poach contributing writers for - I often add my own writing too. I also make changes to the Wordpress based website, update SEO and post content on our social media channels. Facebook followers rose by over 2k in the space of 6 months. So far, my experience here has offered me a fount of marketing skills and a renewed appreciation for the power of digital exposure. I hope to be even more involved as time goes on and to hopefully expand on my already invaluable knowledge. Show less

Prioritising and proofreading successful applications for spelling/grammatical errors. To contact authors with any questions regarding the subject matter or format of their works, so that they can be published in the way both the creative director and writer intended. Contributed toward various anthologies of writer's works via Amazon Kindle, paperback edition and KDP Select. Show less

Supervisor/Manager

Jul 2015 - Sep 2015
A small but growing family confectionery business. My role included maximising profit while minimising costs in tandem with the other retail managers. I ensured that promotions were accurate and the merchandising relevant to marketing standards. My role also dealt with human resources, marketing (digital and offline), customer service and finance. Day-to-day tasks involve managing and motivating a team to increase sales and ensure efficiency. Managing stock levels and making key decisions about stock control whilst analysing sales figures and forecasting future sales. Some of this also included analysing and interpreting the Highcross centre trends to facilitate planning promotions and displays. We had a limited marketing budget so maintaining awareness of market trends, understanding and monitoring what local competitors are doing largely revolved around effective use of social media channels. I also dealt with staffing issues and recruitment; from working with the Highcross job boards, to carrying candidates through to interview stages and training. Show less

Serving customers, supervising a team of up to eight people whilst delivering great service to an award winning standard! On-shift team supervision and ensuring that all money on site, sales figures and stock were managed correctly. I also contributed ideas toward advertising space, sampling and exposure on a local level by liaising with the Highcross marketing team to research advertising opportunities within and around the mall via posters, flyering, website and social media. Training and recruitment for FOH and kitchen staff. Including advertising job vacancies on the mall's job boards and liaising with head office to further advertise vacant job roles. Carrying recruitment through to interview and hiring level whilst effectively communicating with prospective candidates. Working well under pressure in a fast paced environment within strict health and safety protocols has sharpened and enhanced by organisation and analytical skills. A typical day would involve arriving at 8am to check stock, count the safe/previous day's earnings and to make sure all health and safety paperwork were filled out correctly and accurately. I'd also judge from previous sales and targets the amount of stock and food needed for the day, without resulting in waste or spoiled food. My duties also included phoning suppliers to order stock and, if necessary, to ensure all deliveries were collected and signed for appropriately and in correct amounts for the next few days. This was all done to a strict time-scale before opening the restaurant to customers at 11am. A typical close would include accurate completion of end of week paperwork/banking and weekly business reports to send head office. Show less

General Volunteer
-
May 2010 - Jun 2011
As newsletter editor I reviewed resident art exhibitions and helped build programs showcasing upcoming events with brief descriptions and up-to-date information on artists and their works. I also helped organise events including a film social club on a fortnightly basis whereby gallery members and the public could meet and discuss recent showings in friendly discourse. It was a fantastic opportunity to promote the art and culture of the city and to help budding artists expose their work to the public. General voluntary work including cafe Barista and maintaining general upkeep of premises (decorating and DIY tasks) Show less
