As Vice President of the Feminist society at my university, I play an important role in providing strategic leadership and management throughout the academic year for both the society's committee and members. I coordinate with the treasurer to ensure we are within our budgets and monitor projected profits and to be able to host our ticketed social events at external venues. We aim to provide a support network for women and non-binary students. In the past few months we have collaborated with sexual and mental health charities to provide resources and support for those who are struggling. I organise fortnightly debates and discussion groups, as well as socials at local pubs. Creating a network for our society is crucial to promoting it and gaining new membership so I like to reach out to other societies for collaboration such as the kickboxing society to help combat feelings of danger in the city of bristol. Student-led Feminist Magazine at the University of Bristol. I am currently part of the committee as its social secretary, in charge of coordinating events for the collective. The magazine encourages students to submit articles and artwork on current affairs and feminist issues. From my involvement in the magazine I helped push towards affiliation with the SU to promote membership and build a larger community. From advertising our first social at the Freshers fair, the 150 tickets for our pub quiz social sold out within a few hours and from it we gained new members, artists and writers. As our articles are released on deadlines it is important that I have good task prioritisation skills and time management to be able to constantly produce new content. It is also essential that I consider universal design when planning events and socials due to the range of members we have. Therefore, we have quiet non-drinking socials as well as drinking socials. During my GCSEs I decided to start offering tutoring services to pupils around my local area. I tutored Spanish to children aged aged 6 to 12 and English to children aged 10 to 16 (GCSE level). To start off with I made posters and advertised around my school and made announcements during parents evenings. Then after a while, my tutoring pool grew just by word of mouth. I made sure to have meetings with my pupils and their guardians before beginning their tuition to be able to tailor my lessons to their learning level. I did lots of research on inclusive and accessible learning, how to engage with children and provide them with the best service I could manage. Of course with GCSE English Literature texts, I had to read the texts myself and understand them in a way that would enable me to effectively plan and teach pupils. During the Covid lockdowns, alongside my other jobs I continued tutoring online for a little bit of extra income. Show less
