In particular I work across the Armour, Edged Weapons and Oriental collections. I have an interest in fourteenth and fifteenth-century armour, horse armour/ equipment and tournament.

Achievements:-Designed and set up a successful volunteer scheme from scratch at Pontefract Castle. -Designed and delivered the volunteer programme to suit multiple sites (2 castles, 3 museums and the museums' store) and a wider variety of roles across departments.Responsible for:-Designing and delivering training on a variety of subjects, including customer care, visitor experience, health and safety, safeguarding, mentoring, delivering tours, inductions and task-specific guidance. I deliver training to volunteers aged 13 and over from a variety of backgrounds and abilities. -Interviewing and recruiting volunteers. -Attending careers fairs and volunteer recruitment drives. -Writing and designing recruitment material, policies and procedures, and ensuring these are regularly updated. -Booking volunteers for the wide variety of roles and tasks at each venue and liaising with staff across departments, such as curatorial, exhibition and learning teams to ensure appropriate volunteer support for service delivery. -Ensuring regular communication across the volunteer team which is currently almost 100 volunteers. -Ensuring volunteers are engaging with local history and Wakefield Museums and Castles collections, stories and places in order to meet skills development, work experience and well-being goals. -Ordering equipment such as uniforms, personal protective equipment and volunteer resources. -Designing and delivering Wakefield Museums and Castles work experience programme. -Designing and delivering Wakefield Museums and Castles placements programme. -Attending relevant training for personal development, including emergency first aid at work, mentoring and befriending, Train the Trainer, and volunteer management. -I regularly attend volunteer managers’ forums in order to share best practice across the sector. -Assisting with the organisation, preparation and delivery for major events. -Site safety officer on major event days.

I was responsible for managing the volunteer scheme at Pontefract Castle which was initially funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. My responsibilities included writing policies and procedures, recruitment and selection, volunteer induction, training, skills development, reviews, researching best practice and health and safety.I was also involved in event management and tours.

I wrote and installed an exhibition for a local National Trust property to mark the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.I was asked to incorporate themes surrounding the 19th century owners of the property and their interest in collecting. I enjoyed the challenge of working flexibly to changeable deadlines and evolving the display content based on new discoveries within the collection.
