Voluntary team leader overseeing projects and acting as a mentor to a group of young volunteers from both the U.K. and Nepal. As a team leader my role involved assisting the team with their projects and providing 1:1 support as well as leading group activities to boost morale. When volunteering in Nepal, a monsoon hit the country and resulted in the connecting road collapsing to the village we were living in. Alongside this there were multiple landslides and a river overflowing close to buildings volunteers were staying in. I lead the team by moving everybody into one safe building above the water level away from falling rocks. I had the only working phone so was fortunate to be able to contact the emergency team who were unable to rescue us at that point. I led multiple group activities and provided support for each individual. After a week and a half the Nepalese army and Red Cross were able to reach the village so that we could return to the capital. I was praised by the charity for my efforts and remaining calm and keeping the team safe and well. Show less

Volunteer working in Malawi to help educate young people on various topics such as sexual health and disability awareness. A main focus of the project was period poverty, working with women and girls to educate on the topic as well as providing workshops in sanitary pad making. When working with the community and addressing issues surrounding disabilities I created multiple case studies on children and adults living with disabilities to use as a case with multiple charities to provide support.
