I worked closely with Eleanor on the gameplay team during Hood: Outlaws & Legends - and despite having never met Eleanor in person (predominantly due to covid restrictions impacting upon development), she was an extremely strong member of the team who slotted in seamlessly. We mostly collaborated on the setup of platform trophies and achievements, and this shouldn't be understated, Eleanor did the lion's share of the work on something critical to passing certification for each platform holder, despite time constraints. They were an excellent addition to the game and much of the feedback provided by Eleanor helped to shape their design and function. An extremely talented and approachable individual, I can recommend Eleanor to any team :)

From the start of my work at Sumo Newcastle to November 2021 I worked on Hood: Outlaws and Legends. I both carried out bug fixes and the implementation of new features in a wide range of areas, including but not limited to:- Combat development, including adding new attack types and furthering ultimate abilities.- Progression: implementing achievements, perks and tutorial and daily challenges.- Onboarding: assisting in the creation of a single player tutorial and interactive hub elements. - Hooking up audio and VFX to enhance actions in the game.My work on Hood culminated in being a key programmer for the development of the two DLC game modes, State Heist and Gold Rush, from June 2021 when the base game had released and much of the team rolled off the project. Both of these game modes contained elements that differed drastically from the base game and required creative new solutions for implementing their mechanics alongside the existing game, such as wave based PvE and teammate revival mechanics for State Heist's PvE, and adding multiple new objectives for Gold Rush.

I was awarded this industrial placement as a sponsered student by BorgWarner (formerly Sevcon). Over this time period I worked with BorgWarner as a software engineer on their Gen5 High Voltage controller along with other projects in a wide range of areas. Two large projects I took part in included developing a security module for one of their biggest customers of my own design from customer specification to demonstrating its use to the client, and aiding product development with my own additions of enhancing the feature of BorgWarner's custom code and aiding in error logging and analysis. I also aided a number of important software releases for the company by helping perform the final tests required for production. This placement allowed me to develop and hone many professional skills. Going through different stages of thee software development cycle numerous times, and sometimes from start to finish, by myself or within the team was very insightful for an understanding of how work is completed in the industry. I also felt the benefits of working in a team to solve issues and develop a high quality product, improving team communication skills through sharing of knowledge and daily meetings to exchange progress and bring up issues. As part of this placement I also assisted a team member's STEM ambassador activities by taking part in running a two day programme intended to introduce four secondary school classes to Computer Science at an industrial and academic level. I acted as a demonstrator during a games development masterclass and gave a presentation about Computer Science at Newcastle University, both activites teaching me lots about communication and teaching of ideas including in code.

Spent two months in the Business Analysis and IT Support departments as my first exposure to the working office environment. My role was mostly focused on introducing new Agile methods into the office and streamlining the old existing workflow by way of Gemba boards and putting together look-up systems for software.
