This role involves working both independently and as a panel to scrutinise the way in which Northumbria Police deal with rape cases and feed findings directly back to the Police Crime Commissioner. This role requires me to assimilate vast amounts of information to allow a comprehensive scrutiny to be established. The information considered here includes witness statements, incident logs, serious category crime booklets and serious sexual assault investigation reports. We are regularly given training updates on domestic violence and coercion. This role is emotionally demanding, but extremely rewarding. In this role I was given 4 mentees to assist in starting university. I assisted these in a range of ways. For some mentees they only needed a chat to calm their nerves, I did this through a range of communications such as phone calls, email and social media. I received very positive feedback from all of the students I mentored.

Research Director & Careers Chair
-
May 2014 - May 2015
This role involved researching the work that societies from other institutions had done and potential opportunities for our society to arrange career orientated events for the students on the LLB. An example of a successful event which I organised was a well-attended talk by a Barrister of Parkland Plowden Chambers, which students found both interesting and informative.

This was a scheme initially designed to research immigration cases in-depth to create case files for clients facing deportation. This scheme was abandoned after several months as it proved unsuccessful due to the high demand and urgency of cases. In my time at the Newcastle Law Centre I undertook very detailed research on the Falon Gong, a heavily persecuted movement in China. Despite only being here for a short time, I developed skills and a wealth of knowledge regarding immigration law and… Show more This was a scheme initially designed to research immigration cases in-depth to create case files for clients facing deportation.
