Director of Detector Technology
-
Apr 2007 - Present
In this current role, I deliver high-level support in HPGe Crystal Growth/Detector Manufacturing and Fabrication/New Product Development and Innovation/Nuclear Radiation Detection and Identification. Here I recommend and implement efficient methodologies as principal researcher and fabricator of high purity Ge-76 radiation detectors for the Majorana Demonstrator research project in close collaboration with the multifaceted team of researchers from renowned universities and national laboratories. I also spearhead new detector development from design, project scheduling, and execution to the market launch. Furthermore, I lead current Ge-76 programs with the growth and fabrication of Ge-76 detectors. This includes end-to-end management of the valuable Ge-76 inventory and chain of custody. I overlook the growth of high purity Germanium for the manufacture of HPGe detectors. Govern overall aspects of special detector production to satisfy customer experiments and applications.Key Achievements:• Introduced five new detector product lines to the market, while delivering superior performance above current detector products.• Steered remarkable revenue through 50% sales of new detector programs.• Improved the manufacturing process operating at 0% yield to a nominally 65% leakage yield.• Reinstated the product line, while developing and enforcing protocols to prevent loss of the manufacturing line in future.• Formalized a novel method of segmenting high-purity germanium detectors in support of an R&D program worth one million dollars.• New Detector Development:o Large diameter, semi-planar detectors (largest semi-planar detectors offered in the market)o Semi-planar detector product line that includes a novel back contact, new crystal geometry, and a unique cryostat developmento Profile detector program, semi-planar and coaxial product lines. Includes novel contact technologies that enhance the detection and identification of incident gamma rays down to 3 keV.

Ion Implantation Consultant
-
Oct 2006 - Apr 2007
During my time as Ion Implantation Consultant, I outpaced numerous processes and procedures associated with implanting Ge material. I developed a final aperture to optimize current and ensure sufficient beam scan before introducing the target for a controlled implant. I also measured and enhanced the HPGe detector manufacturing and testing processes to accurately and reliably identify radionuclides from respective passive gamma-ray emissions.Significant Accomplishments:• Gauged and increased the efficiency of the ion implantation process for the manufacture of HPGe detectors.• Established ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) pumping station to support portal monitor detectors.• Converted gas supply to ion source: Increased recovery and safe operation and slashed downtime from ion implantation.
