      The Iota Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. was chartered April 7th, 1979 on the campus of the University of California, Davis. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. was founded on January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University. Their objectives are the following: to unite men of culture, patriotism, and honor in the bond of fraternity; to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor; to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual and moral welfare of its members; to assist in the aims and purposes of colleges and universities; lastly, to inspire service in the public’s interest. It is one of four predominantly African American collegiate fraternities. They sponsor community service and social welfare programs; in addition to academic scholarship through the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation. The Iota Sigma chapter has memberships with both the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The fraternity is the first predominantly African American Greek-letter society, founded west of the Appalachian Mountains and is known for "cane stepping" at NPHC step-shows. Their philanthropies are with the St. Jude's Children's Medical Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and the United Negro College Fund. Motto: "Achievement in every field of the human endeavor."

      The Black Student Union serves as a home for the African Diaspora on the University of California, Davis campus to enhance self-identity while respecting the diversity we have within the group and in the greater Davis community.
