    • Sherpa Member of the High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain
      • 2010 - Jan 2013

The European Commission set up a High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain to implement a roadmap of initiatives to improve the competitiveness of the agro-food industry in cooperation with the stakeholders. Vice-President Tajani is leading this exercise together with his fellow Commissioners in charge of Internal Market and Services, Health and Consumer Protection and Agriculture and Rural development. The Forum is composed of representatives of selected Member States, European companies dealing with food production, processing or distribution, professional associations and non-governmental organisations representing the citizens' expectations. The Forum has a three-tier structure, namely :1. the High Level Forum which will report according to the Forum's mandate;2. the Sherpa group mirroring the membership of the Forum, whose role is to prepare the discussions, position papers and to recommend actions and/or policy measures to the High Level Forum;3. the working groups, or Expert Platforms, which will focus on flagship issues requiring a specific expertise, and where the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders - whether represented or not in the High Level Forum - is encouraged, in order to impulse a bottom-up process.

    • Private Expert for Platform on the Competitiveness of the Agro-food Industry
      • 2010 - Jan 2013

As a private expert I essentially served as a member of 2 working groups, or Expert Platforms, which focused on flagship issues requiring a specific expertise, and where the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders - whether represented or not in the High Level Forum - is encouraged, in order to impulse a bottom-up process.Platform 1: The mandate of the Expert Platform on Business to Business contractual practices in the food supply chain includes three objectives: to agree on a list of practices which can be deemed unfair; to identify relevant best practices in commercial relations; and to propose actions when necessary (regulatory or non-regulatory instruments).Platform 2: The mandate of the Expert Platform on the competitiveness of the agro-food industry is to follow-up and advise the Sherpa group and the Forum on the implementation of the roadmap of key initiatives of the High Level Group on the Competitiveness of the Agro-Food Industry related to agriculture and environment, the internal market for food, research and innovation and trade and exports. All these aspects of the roadmap of initiatives of the Forum are essential for the food supply chain to contribute to the objectives of the Europe 2020 growth strategy.
