ARTIST EDWIN GIL TO REALIZE LIFELONG DREAM WITH OPENING OF GIL GALLERY CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (MARCH 1, 2010) – Edwin Gil today announced the grand opening of his new art gallery – Gil Gallery – on Thursday, March 11 from 6 to 9pm at 109 W. Morehead Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gil will be showing work from several of his critically acclaimed series that include: Amigos, Tendencies, Scars, 100% and most recently, Positive Art. “Since my arrival to the U.S. in 2000, I have worked diligently to affect positive change in our community through art,” said Gil. “Through this dedication, as well as the help of friends and supporters, I feel that our community is more socially responsible when it comes to using art as a way to express ideas and emotions. Opening my own gallery is part of this expression and I am excited to share this with the community.” The gallery opening also marks the grand opening of the new location of Coffey & Thompson Art Gallery, which Gil has worked with for nearly 10 years. Self-taught, Gil has worked with his Colombia’s great masters like Hector Favio Castaño, who “fed his spirit with the dirty world” of art, as the painter Jorge Botero Lujan expressed it, when Gil began his dizzying career in the art world. After moving to the U.S. in 2000 and a short stint in Miami, Gil established himself in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he became the principal focus of Hispanic art. Show less
