Looked to see the big picture, to understand how different parts of our virtualized SQL environment, including VMware, shared storage, and the network can affect each other Notable accomplishments: ● Recommended a reconfiguration of SQL Virtual Machines in VMWare to avoid having to license an additional VMWare host, saving ~$80K. ● Used Quest Benchmark Factory for Databases to test different configurations within VMWare including storage type (direct attached vs NFS), CPU type (Intel vs AMD), and amount of memory, to determine the optimal operating configuration to achieve the highest throughput in SQL Server ● Researched various performance monitoring tools for SQL and made a recommendation for one that would provide visibility from the Operating System through the Hypervisor to the storage system Show less

Responsible for installation/configuration, operation, and performance tuning of systems hardware and software.Notable accomplishments:● Set up Security Account Delegation between SQL servers in new SQL 2005 environment. This had not been able to be accomplished until now. Increased the security level of the environment by allowing a user’s login credentials to be passed from one server to another, to control access to data. Previously this type of access was granted by using one common ID for all users.● Deployed DoubleTake to aid in data replication to Denver. This removed the error-prone process of manually updating batch files to copy individual documents to Denver. DoubleTake provided a means to get all of our business and personal File and Print data, along with PowerCenter Data, replicated to Denver.● Deployed SQL Performance Dashboard for SQL 2005. This is a free tool from Microsoft that will give us the ability to view SQL Server’s performance. Show less
