Ed’s one of those truly creative people who’s skilled at lots of things and knows a lot about a lot of things. For instance, he’d know the word I’m reaching for is polymath. He’s also original. There’s no way he’d let me call him a unicorn. I’d need to think harder. He wouldn’t even let me call him a truffle hog. It’d need to be more unexpected. A Lagotto Romagnolo – a prized truffle-hunting dog – might work. It seems pretty apt too – hardworking and always searching for something beautiful (plus he really likes truffles). Ed’s also brilliant at cutting through marketing bullshit and solving problems. He’d probably tell me to stop waffling on about truffle pigs and polymaths and call him what he is: a damn fine art director, who’ll make a great creative director. It can be demoralising as a planner to hand over a brief to a creative team and not see your vision come to life. It can be even more demoralising to hand over your brief and realise your vision wasn't even close to what could be achieved. I had the joy of working with Ed on just about the full spectrum of projects and that's what he consistently delivered. On-brief, on-time work that reminded me I'll never make it as a creative. Ed's a planners dream, he know's when to push things or when to draw things back in. When to challenge and where to compromise. He's diligent, receptive and most importantly just an absolute joy to work with. I could not recommend him enough.
