Mortar Squad- Ammo Bearer Mortar Squad- Ammo BearerThe mortar crew consists of three to four men. The Squad Leader, Gunner, Assistant Gunner, and the Ammo Bearer. The ammunition bearer prepares, inspects, and sets the ammunition. The team mission is to provide accurate and timely response to the unit it supports using a U.S. mortar system. Providing a wide range of operations and purposes. Effective communication is vital to the successful coordination of the efforts of the indirect fire team. The Ammunition Bearer is responsible for adhering to regulations relating to ammunition accountability, storage and handling. Additionally, he is required to inventory and order against any discrepancies found within the mortar squads standard issue equipment. Assists the Squad leader in preventive maintenance care for all weapon systems within the squad and provides reports or deficient or malfunctioning equipment.
