Hurst Point Group was established to facilitate investment by The Carlyle Group, the global private equity firm, into the UK wealth and asset management sector. Our strategy is to build a substantial wealth management group through initial acquisitions and subsequent development, through two core divisions:o Financial planning advice to affluent and high net worth clientso Investment management (bespoke discretionary portfolios, model portfolios and funds)Our Financial Planning division operates under the Argentis brand, and our Investment Management division trades as Hawksmoor. In November 2022 we completed the acquisitions of Metis Wealth, Metis Asset Management and Gore Browne Investment Management, which together bring the Group’s assets under advice and management to over £7 billion.As General Counsel, I am responsible for the Group’s legal affairs, including in relation to M&A and post-acquisition integration; equity and debt capital arrangements; corporate structure and governance; supplier and outsourcing arrangements; and strategic projects including joint ventures.I am a member of the Group Executive Committee, responsible for implementing the Group’s strategy, and Secretary to the Board.

At Kleinwort Hambros, I was Deputy Head of a team of up to 10 lawyers, supporting the group’s private banking and wealth management activities across 4 jurisdictions. Having joined the group from Kleinwort Benson, which was acquired by Société Générale in 2016, I worked on numerous aspects of the integration of Kleinwort Benson into SG Hambros to create SG Kleinwort Hambros.I subsequently managed the legal aspects of the group’s Brexit strategy project, assessing business impacts in multiple EU jurisdictions, developing proposals for approval by Société Générale and supporting their implementation.Our team also worked on the implementation of other new law and regulation, including Payment Services Directive 2, GDPR, MiFID2, and the outsourcing guidelines and requirements of the EBA, PRA and FCA. During this time, I was a member of the Client Assets Oversight Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the group’s arrangements for the custody and protection of client assets.I was also a member of Société Générale Pride & Allies, which aims to foster a more positive working environment for LGBT+ staff and assists allies and senior management in creating a working environment where LGBT+ employees feel safe, respected and are able to bring their whole selves to their work life.

In this role I led a team of 7 lawyers, supporting multiple regulated businesses in the UK, Jersey and Guernsey. In addition to private banking and wealth management, Kleinwort Benson’s activities included trust and fiduciary, fund administration, and corporate finance advice.The team provided legal support to a major technology outsourcing project, the implementation of a new Treasury risk management system, and the sale of Kleinwort Benson’s fund administration business. We also managed and resolved several material liability matters.In 2016, I led the team through the acquisition of Kleinwort Benson by Société Générale.

BHF Kleinwort Benson Group (formerly RHJ International) was a Belgian headquartered, Euronext listed financial services group with principal activities in wealth management, asset management and private banking. I became UK legal counsel during the group’s transformation from a diversified investment firm (a former Ripplewood private equity fund) to a European financial services group. My main focus was on M&A and group strategy, including minority investments and strategic partnerships.I worked on the disposal of several Japanese companies; the acquisition of Close Offshore Group (Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man); and the acquisition of BHF Bank (Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg). I managed the regulatory approvals for the acquisition of BHF Bank across eight jurisdictions, and also worked on the equity funding arrangements for this transaction with external investors including BlackRock and Fosun Group.I subsequently became Head of Legal at Kleinwort Benson, the group’s UK subsidiary.BHF Kleinwort Benson Group was acquired by Oddo & Cie, the French private banking group, in 2016. Kleinwort Benson was then acquired by the Société Générale group, where I became Deputy Head of Legal at SG Kleinwort Hambros.
