Develop, implement and maintain a suitable EMS for the Asset Support Contract in Highways Agency Area 2 to minimise environmental risk, demonstrate continuous improvement and secure accreditation to ISO14001. Undertake regular audits to ensure compliance with the contract’s EMS in accordance with ISO14001.Manage a team of 5 environmental professionals and a large number of external specialist consultants to ensure delivery of a diverse range of civil engineering projects. Oversee, undertake and manage EIA to include technical input and advice on subjects including contamination risk, biodiversity, water quality, landscape, cultural heritage and waste management.Establish an appropriate supply chain able to supply environmental services as required. Implement a training programme to upskill the current workforce and reduce reliance on external contractors. Responsibility for the programming and cost management of all environmental works, including that undertaken by sub contractors and external consultants.Oversee management of the contract’s 5,000 hectares of soft estate, including management of statutory features such as SSSI's and Scheduled Monuments. Undertake water and soil sampling and testing to ensure compliance with facility specific permits/licenses/exemptions.Present to site, design and construction teams regarding environmental requirements and opportunities for enhancing sustainability credentials.Respond to environmental incidents and organise appropriate responses. Ensure that the collection and collation of environmental management data is adequate. Utilise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to ensure data informs future decision making. Ensure that management information is regularly and effectively reported to the client. Implement mechanisms to meet client targets with regards to reduction in carbon emissions, waste management, energy and material use. Drive a reduction in cost whilst implementing environmental management aspects.
