      In this position I acted as an assistant to David Ward in managing both the recruitment of placement providers (university academics/research students) and the administration and support for the secondary school students who will be undertaking these summer placements. The Nuffield Research Placement is a scheme that enables college and secondary students to undertake a summer research placement hosted by an active researcher in a University environment. With a particular focus on encouraging students who do not have a history of university attendance and from deprived areas. The scheme primary goal is to help encourage such students to pursue either further educational or career in a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) subjects.This role included recruiting placement providers and bringing new schools into the program. This involved organise meetings with the placement providers and schools to answer questions and ensure that that all the placements meet high standards of supervision and health and safety. My area of responsibility is focused on the wider Sheffield area for the recruitment of placement provider, students and schools. Further, I am in charge of supporting students who would undertake the placement through being a point of contact and creating and supplying resources to the providers such as induction packs and forms to standardise the procedure of the placement.

During the delivery of teaching this role included the supervision of other demonstrators and supporting them when needed. This involved closely with lecturers and the departmental support staff. In some modules this included acting as a liaison to external speakers who were giving quest lectures or running workshops.These roles helped me to develop a good understanding of how to communicate knowledge and support both group and individual learning. While also developing practical skills in problem solving and adapting communication method to achieve the best results possible.
