  During the summer of 2023, I will be conducting research at Yale University's Department of Neuroscience, under the guidance of Dr. Steven Schiff and Dr. Andrew Whalen. My research will focus on understanding brain growth in hydrocephalic children by applying optimal control to pressure in adjustable hydrocephalus shunt valves. This approach will utilize current data on normal childhood brain growth and information from ongoing clinical trials investigating brain growth in children with hydrocephalus. I will carry out a series of simulation tests using Matlab to evaluate various cost functions related to regulating brain growth. The goal is to replicate the observed growth patterns in both normal and hydrocephalic children. This research endeavour aims to contribute to the understanding and potential treatment of hydrocephalus in affected children. Show less
